Otoczone kultem obrazy maryjne w kościele OO. Dominikanów w Lublinie

Abstrakt

The Lublin Dominican monastery prided itself on having four images of the Mother of God, famous for their graces, that were worshipped from the beginning of the 17th century. Three of them have survived and still draw many believers. They are: the late-Gothic Mother of God „with fruit” in the type of Hodegetria, and two paintings dating from the 17th century – the Mother of God of Ruszel and the Tribunal Mother of God. The fourth one, that has not survived, a miraculous Marian image, was mentioned in the middle of the 18th century by Felicjan Nowowiejski. In the altar of the chapel erected with the funds supplied by Katarzyna Ossolińska nee Bierecka (de Bierce) for the confraternity of the Holy Rosary there was a painting showing the Assumption of the Virgin Mary surrounded by smaller pictures of Rosary Mysteries.

In the course of centuries all four images were decorated with many costly votive offerings – a clear form of expressing gratitude for the graces received through their intercession. The present article is an attempt at collecting historical information about the Marian images famous for miracles that are found in the Stanisław Church in Lublin.
