Leśne gniazdo toponimiczne
Abstrakt
The subject matter of the paper are local names (microtoponims, oiconims, and macrotoponims) derived from the noun las (forest, wood) and its direct derivatives: leśny (woody), lasek (wood, grove), laska ‘leszczyna’ (hazel bough), and indirect of the kind of laskowy, leszcze ‘leszczyna’, leśnik (forester), leśniczy (forester), leśnictwo (forestry), and others. Toponims constructed on this popular lexical basis are varied with regard to form and semantics. One can find in this material synonymous series in the form of physiographics: Lesica, Laskówka, Laskowic, Leszcze(-a), Leszczyna, Leszczyniec, Leszczyniak, all of them denoting a hazel place or Lesice, Leśnie(-o)wice, Lasowice, Leśce, denoting people of the forest. With the same plural forms, and also singular in the form of Laskowa, Laskówka, is connected with phenomenon of homonymy with regard to their appelative or anthroponimic basis. Therefore they may also be treated as potential derivative (singular) or patronymic (plural) forms.
The toponimic “leśne” (woody) field presented here, together with others, fills in the onomastic map of a concrete area. Its morphological and semantic wealth, stemming from the appelative basis of the language, makes its that it is an important component, not only a margin, as it sometimes thought.
