The Linguistic Review − a Forgotten Genre of Scientific Linguistic Creativity
Abstract
The paper is devoted to linguistic review as a genre of scientific linguistic creativity. In the beginning, the author reminds us about the tradition of that genre in its main varieties, published in the column Some Linguistic Remarks on Books of the periodical “The Polish Language” linguistic reviews of literary works, non-artistic texts (e.g. scientific) and translations (belles-lettres, journalism etc.). Approving of linguistic review as a socially useful genre and realization of the social mission of linguistics, the author formulates a thesis about the need of its restitution. In order to prove that it is possible, he presents as an example a short commentary and evaluation of the language of the novel A Knot on the Scarf, written by Kazimierz Piekarczyk and forgotten by young people.
