Czym są pisma „eksoteryczne” Arystotelesa?
Abstrakt
The character of the lost writings, which Aristotle called „exoteric”, was not unambiguous already for the historians and scholars of antiquity. Any controversies about that gained fresh impetus in the nineteenth century, in relation with Aristotle's lost fragments edited by V. Rose (Leipzig 1863), and they have lasted until now. The paper gives a critical review of the most important ways in which the ancient and modern scholars understood this term in reference to Aristotle's writings. By analyzing the testimonies of the Stagirite himself and the opinions of the Roman and Greek scholars (Cicero, Gellius and Neo-Platonics), the paper seeks to show whether the modern judgements about the classification and character of the lost writings of the Philosopher are legitimate or not. Indirectly, it seeks to answer the question posed in the title of the paper.
