Abstrakt

The paper makes notice of the phenomenon found in the so-called literary onomastics in the comic works by Stefan Wiechecki. The paper discusses the problem of correspondence between the proper nouns in Wiech and the names existent in Poland. It is worth noting that the author is willing to name his heroes with common nouns such as: Balon, Kapeć, Kapuśniak, Krzesło, Nóżka, Ołówek, Pleban, Rogalik, Smaczny, Trzonek... ᾿Balloon, Slipper, Cabbage Soup, Chair, Little Foot, Pencil, Parson, Bun, Tasty, Handle etc.᾽ These common nouns often play the role of proper nouns which is not typical of them. Thus they add to the comic side of the situation which the author describes.

On the basis of the material from Wiech's works, we have outlined the problem of transformations in the flexion of prepositional phrases, e.g., Café (the function of nom.) „Pod Minogą” ᾿Under the Lamprey᾽ (prepositional phrase: preposition pod ᾿under᾽ followed by a noun in instr.) → *Pod Minogą (the function of nom.) ᾿Under the Lamprey᾽ → Minoga (nom.) ᾿The Lamprey᾽ → pod Minogą (the function of loc.) ᾿under The Lamprey᾽, spod Minogi (gen.) ᾿from under The Lamprey᾽, w Minodze (loc.) ᾿in The Lamprey᾽.
