Paradoxes of the Linguistic Etiquette (Ambiguity and Multifunctionality of Words and Forms)
Abstract
The paper consists of two parts. The first one discusses the ways to use such words as please, thank you, sorry, sir, madam, which are attributed with a polite function. They may also occur in neutral statements or in those with an emotionally negative tone. The second part contains remarks on the suitability or unsuitability of vulgarisms in the Polish language.
