Józef Czechowicz: Dawne dni

  • Bogumiła Kaniewska Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań

Abstract

The author of the interpretation shows that the analysed fragment of Józef Czechowicz's poetical prose anticipates the most splendid features in his mature lyrical poems: shaping the presented world in a work according to the rules of idyll with simultaneously questioning the principles ruling the Arcadian vision of the world. In Dawne dni the idyll is confronted with the poetics of the epiphany. Eternity of the eclogue is accompanied by the instantaneous character of a momentary experience, revelation, and contact with transcendence. The article is a significant complement to the state of research on Czechowicz's prose that is − as yet − little known.
