Why a Classic? About the Problem of Classicism in Herbert's Poetry
Abstract
The author presents the basic state of research and defines the range of the title notion. The horizon of Herbert's understanding of classicism is close to Elzenberg's horison. For Elzenberg the stability of the axiological relation to the world is the basic determinant. The author sees the foundations of the „attitude of manfulness in the face of existence” so important in Herbert's poetry in his continuation of Elzenberg's thought. In the sketch poetical ways of „building the tables of values” and artistic techniques of reflecting upon axiology are discussed.
