A Few Remarks on the Baccheidos liber by Peter Roysius

Abstract

The stylistic analysis of the satirical work Baccheidos Liber by Peter Roysius proved an interesting literary conception of the work, consisting in placing the satirical poem in the convention of epos. Setting the „high” form in opposition to the „low” contents puts the character of a humorous heroization on the work, the fact which enhances the intended comic effect. The talent of Roysius as a satirists is manifested here also in his objectivity and realism of descriptions, a subtle joke, good taste and understanding for human frailties.
