Note on the Genesis of Cyprian Norwid's Assunta

Abstract

Where did the idea of the poem come from? It is well known that with such a polymorphous and ambiguous work it cannot be easy to identify any undisputed facts responsible for its creation. The existing list of direct or indirect causes that contributed to the writing of Assunta can be extended by one more, of a philological nature. It is Karol Brzozowski's poem Park Boży (Ałłah Bahczesi). Obrazek z Bałkanów poświęcony Cyprianowi Norwidowi. The poem first appeared in the „Czas. Dodatek Miesięczny” in 1856.
