Abstrakt

The theatre was an important part of Karol Wojtyła's life. From his earliest years he took part in school performances of plays. As a young man he was an actor of the Rhapsodic Theatre in Cracow. The group presented quality classical plays, especially Romantic ones.

Karol Wojtyła also wrote dramatic plays, among others, Job, Jeremiah, Our God's Brother and In Front of a Jeweller's Shop.

As a bishop and as a pope Karol Wojtyła – John Paul II – attached great importance to contacts with people of culture. In his speeches – also the official ones, like in the UNESCO – he emphasized the important role of culture in the life of a man and of society.
