Abstract

As a result of analyses of sources and literature we have managed to find 100 names of teachers who taught at the Lublin Jesuit College in the 16th-17th centuries. The research that deals with their social background has shown that their majority came from nobility. Few of them came from bourgeoisie. The Jesuits who taught at the College were from all provinces of the Crown, with a few foreigners who arrived there from time to time.

The level of education among the teachers of the Jesuit college did not diverge from the standards accepted by the order. The majority of the them had degrees in philosophy from Kalisz, and in theology from Poznań. More than thirty teachers continued their education abroad, choosing mainly Roman universities.
