Abstract

The topic of man’s sexuality is particularly crucial today. It is the sphere which is being manipulated and subjected to numerous destructive activities, which is why we are often wounded and suffer. One of the basic functions of sexuality is procreation. It is this function that is especially subject to the destructive action of the organized action "birth control", including contraception, abortion and sterilization. The so-called "sexual education" has paved the way for these actions.

By the power of the Regulation of the Ministry of Education (MEN) of August 18th, 1993, school curriculum should include "a knowledge about human sexual life, about conscious and responsible parenthood, about the value of family, the value of conceived life, as well as methods and means of conscious procreation." The curriculum shows care about adolescents and is grounded on the principle of respect for human dignity. Whether it will be realized and in what form depends, above all, on teachers and those who will undertake man’s education also in the aspect of his sexuality.

For those who seek aid and support to meet this special challenge post-graduate studies have been set up. Their purpose is to train people as to their sexuality, yet with a different bent; some of them are more pro-family, others opt for sexual education. One of the offers is Postgraduate College on Family (PSR) of KUL. Having announced the first recruitment, as many as 137 candidates arrived. It was interesting to investigate their attitudes in this sphere, in which they want to educate children and adolescents. Such studies were carried out among all the participants in the beginning of their studies in the College, and dealt, among other things, with the attitudes towards procreation. On the basis of the findings it has been stated that the attitudes towards procreation among persons taking up studies in PSR KUL are very positive. The students decidedly opted for absolute value of human life. They do not allow for any intervention both at its beginning (prenatal diagnosis, "artificial procreation," and its end (euthanasia). They see the beginnings of life in the moment of fertilization. They value each human life, irrespective of physical and psychic fitness. The subjects are open to life, prefer natural methods of family planning, and they shun contraceptive and antibirth methods. They regard abortion as a morally wrong act, irrespective of the manner of participation in it, and do not allow for any moral justification of abortion in various circumstances. Premarital chastity is an essential value for them. The research has proved that there is a relationship between the attitudes towards procreation and religious commitment, and sexual eduction one has received, especially the influence of the mass media, significant persons and conversations with parents.

The persons who decided to study at PSR KUL are, certainly, teachers of very high calibre and great responsibility for young generation. Accordingly, they deserve particular attention and help, especially on the part of education, self-government and Church authorities.
