Cultural anthropology in translation studies
Abstract
Cultural anthropology focusing on the study of cultural heterogeneity finds application in many humanistic disciplines, including translation studies. Its effect on translation studies can be observed especially through the so-called cultural turn. Thanks to the assumptions of anthropology, the attention of translation theoreticians is focused on such terms as strangeness, otherness, intercultural communication. Anthropological methodology also affected the change of translators' preferences with regard to the use of translation strategies. Aiming at maintaining cultural heterogeneity, they more frequently make use of exotisation.
