(Polish) Immigrants in the (Non-Polish) City: Space, Memory, Gender
Abstract
The author analyzes many aspects of East European exiles' challenges posed by settling in modern North American multicultural cities. The academic reflection departs from Eva Hoffman’s book Lost in Translation that allows seeing the specificity of women's situation in anew, culturally challenging environment. Introducing the gendered perspective brings previously unnoticed elements of new immigrants lives to focus, and provides an important point of departure for further analysis of various aspects of studies of Polish diasporas abroad.
