Abstract

Truth in literature is for Liebert – to put is as simply as possible – truth in general. For a poet for whom life and work were an inseparable whole, which for a Christian poet means unceasingly harmonizing two absolutes according to Maritain's words, the truth of literature and the truth of life just could not exist, like literariness devoid of contents, of the object of mediation and translation. Truth in literature for Liebert is – as I understand it – literature in truth, perceived as a creative act manifesting its existence, for which the subject wording it is responsible not only to the reader but first of all to God.
