A Minaret or Minarets in the Cathedral in Kamieniec Podolski?

Abstract

In works devoted to the history of Kamieniec Podolski accounts of its restoration to the Poles according to the provisions of the Karłowice peace treaty of 1699 are rather scarce. The celebration is described of the handing the town keys to Poles by the Turks leaving the town, and the religious setting of the celebration of the return is still not presented precisely enough. On the basis of the preserved archival materials the event is shown in the present text. Another problem is the form of the cathedral at the times when the town was occupied by the Turks – was it decorated with one or two minarets? A detailed analysis of the preserved sources does not solve the problem unambiguously; its elucidation will probably be possible when the future studies of the foundation remains preserved at the facade of the cathedral are made; the foundations were found during the survey conducted in Kamieniec before 1918.
