Comparisons between People and their Behaviour in Melchior Wańkowicz's Reports

Abstract

The paper discusses the comparisons between people and their behaviour in Melchior Wańkowicz's reports. The subject-matter of our analysis are full and exemplary comparisons based on the scheme Cd:R:Tc:Ct. In the material under study they constitute a very small percentage, including comparisons which completely diverge from the full scheme, with the omission of elements and word order untypical of the Polish language. The function and manner of expressing Tc and exposed here. Tc refers, as a rule, to the knowledge and experience of the reader, his feelings or stereotypes encoded in subconsciousness. The division into individual, singular, phraseologized comparisons becomes also essential; they occur in the language of a common polish user.
