Abstract

The paper analyzes nomina agentis with the suffix -acz known only from the Bible of Szymon Budny (the direct translation from the Hebrew original, printed in 1572). The author have noted 16 neologisms of this kind from Budny’s translation. The detailed analysis is conducted in two stages. In the first part the author compares Budny’s vocabulary with earlier two translation of the Bible: from the Latin by Leopolita (1561) and from the Greek, the so-called Brześć Bible (1563). The differences result not only from the translation of other linguistic structures of the originals: the Hebrew version, the Greek one and the Latin one, but also from Budny’s tendency to render each Hebrew word by one Polish word, and his easiness with which he creates neologisms. In the second part the author compares Budny’s translation with the contemporary Polish translation from the Hebrew, i.e. with the so-called Bible of the Millennium.
