Stone Lions in the „House under the Lions” in Lublin. A Supposed Work by Santi Gucci

Abstract

About the year 1587 Santi Gucci, or his workshop, sculptured stone lions for Paweł Cholewa, the owner of the tenement-house at 9 Rynek Starego Miasta. The careful, masterly way in which they were produced drew the attention of historians of art to it. Owing to remedial works suppositions were confirmed concerning the dates of the objects' creation, the place where they were produced and the material of which they were sculptured (the Janów limestone).
