Józef Czechowicz's Literary Life. Side-Notes on the Poem We czterech [The Four of Us]

Abstract

Józef Czechowicz's We czterech − one of the poet's early works − is the only text devoted to the Lublin literary circle of the 1920's. The poem has been interpreted as a kind of programme manifesto of the literary group Reflektor (1924-1930) and a document of the literary life. Thank to this it has been possible to answer the question about the character of Józef Czechowicz's co-operation with other writers, which seems to have changed from partnership in Reflector to the position of authority in the later groups. The author of the article has used the methods of sociology of literature, thereby suggesting a way of reading the text favouring both maintaining a connection with literature and with the sociological circumstances of its creation.
