Self-Liber Or An Apotheosis of Imagination? On Józef Czechowicz's opowiadanie [A Story]
Abstract
This article consists of analysis and interpretation of the poem by Józef Czechowicz, entitled Opowiadanie (A story). The poem has been hardly commented before since it was not seen as the example of the most representative works of its author. Thus the analysis concentrates on these aspects of literary construction of the poem which reveal an interesting variant of Czechowicz’s poetics: its syntactic coherence, unique rhythmical and rhyme regularity, unusual lack of such effects as apposition, juxtaposition and parataxis. Three interpretative perspectives: ontological, temporal and „autothematic” enable one to read the poem as a metaliterary commentary and apotheosis of poetic imagination.
