Twenty-Two Letters. Introductory Remarks About Józef Czechowicz's Poemat [Poem]

  • Władysław Panas Faculty of Humanities, Catholic University of Lublin

Abstract

The article is a fragment of a study on the extremely mysterious Poem (1938) by J. Czechowicz. In the fragment the author discusses the surprising and strange composition based on the Hebrew alphabet. This kind of texts is defined as 'abecedearius', but in Czechowicz's work it is a Polish-Latin-Hebrew hybrid and hence the author of the sketch calls the construction 'alefbetgidarius'. He sees a reference to the cabalistic mysticism of the letters here. All this is a great surprise, considering what is known about Czechowicz's work.
