The Last Judgement. On a Bruno Schulz Exlibris
Abstract
Schulz's exlibris have a unique importance, out of proportion to their physical shape. These tiny drawings contain some of the great, perhaps the greatest, of Schulz's themes and problems. The exlibris made for Weigarten contains Schulz's only full scenic vision, his only „theatrical” work. It brings together representations of art as the domain of convention, of petrified forms (and meanings) of culture, of game and costume; at the same time it conveys the notion of an equivocal status of artistic work.
