The Oral Residue in Adam Mickiewicz's Pan Tadeusz

Abstract

We deal with a few epical features of oral provenance such as: formulaic quality, redundancy and the so-called stock epithet in the plane of verbal organisation and an agonistic model of the world in the plane of expression. This layer of oral „residue” in the poetic stylisation of Pan Tadeusz has attracted little attention in research so far.
