S. F. Klonowic’s Metre in the Poem Victoria Deorum (Books XXXI-XXXV)
Abstract
The author has carried out a thorough metrical analysis of two versions of Klonowic’s Victoria Deorum, Books XXXI-XXXV. The poet’s metre has never been studied so closely before. The author was able for the first time to establish the characteristics of Klonowic’s hexameter and to compare them with the structure of the clasical Latin hexameter. He investigated the ending of the hexametric line, the use of the caesura and ellision. He analyzed the prosody. The conclusions are firmly based on the text, for the first time studied in its entirety.
