Idoneism and the classical conception of cognitive truth
Abstract
The article is divided into three parts preceded by an introduction: (a) the idoneistic concept of scientific knowledge, (b) the classical conception of cognitive truth, and (c) the suitability of statements of knowledge and the agreement object aspects with the content of knowledge.
Idoneism comes from the Latin word idoneus, describing something that is well suited in a given situation.
The author of the article proposes to differentiate between the types of idoneities: cognitive suitability that complies with the classical concept of truth, the instrumental suitability of theory, the suitability of system coherence, the suitability of explanation, the suitability of system predictability, the suitability of system modification.
