Poles in Sweden and the Catholic Church (1945-1981)

Abstract

The article presents a brief history of Polonia-in Sweden whose present number is estimated at around 20 thousand. It also presents the history of Polish pastoral care in Sweden and its development particularly after 1970 when Polish Oblates, Passionists Paulites and other priests arrived in Sweden. The Polish priests in Sweden constitute 15% of all the Catholic clergy. The author discusses the Polish publications in Polish, Swedish and French which were popularizing the Polish problematics in Scandinavia. He also presents the religious life of Polonia and its charitative activities for Poland.
