Abstrakt

This article covers two very important issues concerning Korea. One deals with the division of the Korean state, and the other refers to an international attempt to unify Korea. The first international initiative aimed to solve the Korean problem presented at the Geneva Conference of 1954.

Although lasting only 64 years, the division of the country is still a major international, political and social issue. Both the division and attempts to unify Korea are issues at the global level. The concept of the division is not a Korean national idea but rather a consequence of the power-states struggling to gain dominance. Similarly, the Geneva Conference was an international initiative aiming to unify the Korean states.

Even though the Geneva Conference was not successful, undoubtedly it was an important event for it promoted the Korean issue at the international area and revealed the complexity of the Korean problem.
