The Unknown Manuscript from the Library of St Jan Kanty and the Cracow Question on Heretics

Abstract

The paper contains some considerations on the contents and the fate of the manuscript no. 1588 from the Jagiellonian Library, as well as the text of the Cracow question on heretics which is included in the manuscript. The author arrives at a conclusion that the manuscript contains St Jan Kanty's own excerptions on theology written in his handwriting. Aside to that there are some copies of anonymous sermons and theological treatises written by well-known authors. Jan Kanty took possession of the manuscript between 1431 and 1438. The author of the question on heretics, also rewritten by Jan Kanty, was perhaps Benedict Hesse of Cracow. Most likely this question concerns Hussites.
