Sciences and Philosophy of Nature

  • Michał Heller

Abstract

Three stages of scientific knowledge of the world are discussed. The first stage is provided by philosophy of science the aim of which is to understand the sciences rather than the world itself. The second step consists in pursuing traditional philosophical themes which are involved in scientific theories. This stage is called “philosophy in science”. Every science presupposes certain assumptions which cannot be analyzed with the help of philosophies which are a priori with respect to science. It seems that a new philosophy should be created especially to satisfy such needs of science. Scientific theories themselves should serve as a starting point of such a philosophy. This third stage could be named “science as philosophy”.
