Abstract

At present there are two categories of Poles in Greece: settlers or legal contract-workers and illegal migrants. On the whole it seems that the former look down on illegal migrants blaming them of spoiling good name of Polish immigrants there. On their part illegal workers from Poland, in spite of their status and uncertainty of their stay, tray to live a normal life in Greece, working, dwelling in hired flats, visiting each other or travelling during weekends. They yearn for legalisation of their stay and work, which however, seems unreal. The continuation of economic migration from Poland to Greece will depend on various factors among them: on further lasting of possibilities to earn well there, on changes on the Polish labour market, and on the attitude of the hosts toward it.
