Abstract

The aim of the article is to present the activities of the UN on the legislative level, and to develop effective measures to prevent and combat terrorism. From the perspective of counteracting terrorism, the article presents the crucial resolutions drawn by the UN General Assembly (including issues connected with combating terrorist funding – New York Convention V, adopted on 9 December 1999) and measures included in The Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy. Further, the article describes the actions taken by the UN Security Council, the role of the UN Economic and Social Council, and the Ad Hoc Committee on Measures to Eliminate International Terrorism. An analysis of the solutions contained in the documents produced by the UN will help to assess the degree of their clarity and effectiveness in fighting extremely dangerous threats to the security of states and their citizens, namely terrorism.
