Abstract

The paper brings home to us the genesis of stock exchange and Polish traditions in this matter. The author shows how stock exchange functioned in Poland during the partitions. In the Second Polish Republic there were seven money exchange offices, i.e. more than at present. Apart from the Warsaw Stock Exchange, the money exchange in Krakow have been dealt with in detail. The author puts forward a thesis that if the Second World War had not broke out and the communist state that followed it, we could presume that stock exchange offices would still be working and supporting Polish economy. The glorious period of the Second Polish Republic is marked by the fact that after the reconstruction of the capital market, following the economic transformations of 1989, the stock exchange regulations from the Second Republic were restored.
