Religious instruction in Public Schools

Abstract

The papers is composed of five parts. In the first part the problems pertaining to religious teaching in public schools in the period of Polish People’s Republic have been presented briefly. The second part is devoted to the question concerning the reintroduction of religious teaching in schools in the school years 1990/91. in the third part international standards as regards religious instruction in public schools have been given. The fourth part (the broadest one) discusses the current legal rules in Poland pertaining to the legal status of the catechist at school (his qualification to teach religion, employment, transferring and dismissing catechists, the system of promotion), the organization of religious instruction, the rules concerning marks in religion on school certificates, pedagogic supervision etc. The last part contains the rules and practices of the Catholic Church as regards catechetic supervision, methodic counselling and curricula of teaching the Catholic religion.
