„Crux firmat mitem, mitigat fortem”. The Blessed Vilmos Apor - a Contemporary Martyr
Abstract
Modelled on the Good Shepherd who lavs down his life for the sheep (J 10, 11), the new blessed Vilmos Apor directly participated in the paschal mystery, so far as to the highest offer of life. He was killed on Good Friday with a mortal blow, when he defended his sheepfold. Thus he experienced, through martyrdom, his own particular Pasch, giving a heroic testimony to the love of Christ and solidarity with brothers. Finally, he received the crown of glory, as promised for the faithful servants. The heroic testimony of Bishop Vilmos Apor bestows honour on the noble Hungarian nation and is today shown as a pattern for the whole Church. May it become an encouragement for the faithful to follow Christ in their own lives without hesitation. This is what is meant by holiness to which everyone is called.
This forcible testimony of John Paul II, being a fruit of moral certitude gained in the beatification process, can be left without a commentary.
