Regulations Enforcing the Institution of Concordat Marriage
Abstract
The new Polish concordat – negotiated in 1993 and ratified in 1998 – made it possible for Polish Catholics to contract civil marriages in the religious (canon) form. Article 10 of the Concordat, which introduced the institution of “concordat marriage”, assumed making previously defined changes in Polish legislature. The changes were ultimately enforced at the end of 1998. However, interpretation of these regulations (including the concordat norm) is not obvious, Hence in commentaries various opinions of this subject are presented. The present article is “a voice in this discussion” and it is an expression of a definite attitude taken by the author of the publication.
